Folegandros is located in the southern part of the Cyclades archipelago, between the islands of Milos and Sikinos.

Highlights of the island of Folegandros

There are relatively few tourist attractions on Folegandros. This island is known for its peaceful beaches and great diving spots. If you want to go sightseeing, visit the capital, built-in Cycladic style. In addition to the usual shops and taverns, you can find the starting point for several hiking trails here. These mostly lead to the beaches.
Head to the Church of Panagia. It is only a 10-minute walk from here. The church offers a great view over the island! Since you come to Folegandros by boat, visit the Chryssospilia sea cave! It is located on the northeastern part of the island.

Gastronomy of Folegandros

You must try two local specialities on this island. One of them is Souroto, a delicious white cheese. It is made with fresh goat’s or sheep’s milk, or a mixture of the two. The texture of the cheese is creamy, the taste is salty or peppery.
Another delicacy is the matsata. It is homemade pasta made with flour, olive oil, salt and water. Typically, it is cut into strips and then topped with meat and grated cheese.

Agali beach

One of the most popular beaches on the island is Agali. It is embraced by rocks on the two sides, so you can clearly see both ends of the beach. In summer, there are some taverns on the beach offering delicious dishes and drinks. This slowly deepening, sandy beach is perfect for swimming.

Karavostasi beach

This beach is located near the port of the island. You can go swimming in crystal clear water. If you want to get out of the sun, the trees surrounding the beach provide cooling shade. Close to the slowly deepening, family-friendly beach, there are several beautiful Cycladic buildings, apartments and taverns.

Agios Georgios beach

This peaceful, secluded beach is in the northern part of Folegandros. It is ideal if you want to swim in a tranquil environment. There are some trees on this sandy beach providing cooling shade. The only downside is that due to its location, the Meltemi wind is very strong in summer. You should check the weather forecast before visiting.

Ambeli beach

You can get to this small beach from the Church of Agios Panteleiomonas in just a half-hour following the hiking trail, or you can moor here with your boat. If you love beautiful sunsets, visit this beach! There are no services, so you have to take care of the food and drinks for yourself.

The Mediterranean Folegandros has similar weather conditions as the other Cyclades islands. Only autumn and winter see some rain, but just a small amount. July and August are the hottest months. The average temperature is 24 degrees. The temperature of the sea is 24 degrees, perfect for swimming and diving.
